Wild Rice Expert - Annette Drewes
by Hunter, Zane, and Cole
Annette Drewes, a wild rice expert, taught us a lot about wild rice. We learned that it grows in lakes and shallow areas. Wild rice is harvested in a canoe. They use sticks to grab the rice and knock it into the canoe. Then it is processed. It is peeled, washed, and dried over a fire. Then you can boil it and put it in soup.

Wild Rice Producer - Krystal Story
by Hunter, Zane, and Cole
Krystal Story, a producer who owns a wild rice business, Rhinestone Farms, also visited our classroom. Krystal raises rice on a paddy. They plant the rice in a paddy and flood the field. It grows. To harvest the rice they drain the field, let it dry and then a combine comes and picks the rice. It goes into a truck. It is dried in a fire. Then it is bagged and sent to a store.
